Bird list

Clearly the time of year will strongly effect the birds that we will see. In order to stand a chance of seeing 100 species it would help if your birthday falls in May or September!

Ospreys

Raptors

Speciality species include Red Kite, Peregrine, Hobby and, of course, the famous Rutland Ospreys.

Little stint

Waders

The Spring and Autumn, when the migration is under way, are the best times.  19 species of wader have been recorded at Rutland Water in September.

Winter watching

Tens of thousands of wildfowl arrive in winter, including internationally important numbers of Gadwall and Shoveler. And then there are often Great Northern Divers, Slavonian Grebes, Short-eared Owls.

Year round

The Tree Sparrow is a bit of a Rutland speciality that can be seen throughout the year.
However, as with all wildlife viewing, we can give absolutely no guarantee that any species will be seen!
